Germination and Seed Care
Seeds are living things, and germination can vary from grower to grower depending on conditions such as temperature, light, moisture and compost.
Timing
Every sowing begins the same way. With care, attention, and the right conditions.
Germination is not a fixed process, some types of seed can be erratic. It’s shaped by temperature, light, moisture, compost, timing and how seeds are handled before and after sowing. Even within the same batch, results can vary from one grower to the next.
Sweet peas and other flower seeds respond best when conditions are right for steady, even growth. Warmth encourages germination, while consistent moisture and free-draining compost help prevent seed rot. Sowing depth and aftercare also play an important role in early success.
Growing from seed is a balance of preparation, patience and observation, and each sowing reflects its own moment.
To support good germination, seeds should be stored in a cool, dry place until ready to sow. Follow the sowing guidance provided, use clean containers and fresh compost, and avoid overwatering during early stages.
Seeds are living things, and for this reason germination can never be guaranteed. All seeds supplied by The Wild Potager Co are carefully sourced and quality checked.
If you experience an issue with germination, please get in touch within 30 days of purchase and I’ll always do my best to help, whether that’s advice, a replacement, or a refund where appropriate.
