Lemon Balm
Lemon Balm is a wonderfully fragrant perennial herb, producing fresh green, deeply textured foliage with a bright lemon scent when bruised or cut. Easy to grow and long-lived, it brings both scent and foliage to the potager, while its small pale flowers are loved by bees and other pollinators. A useful addition to the cutting garden for its fresh, aromatic foliage and soft, informal habit.
Growing Notes
Sow indoors from February to April onto moist seed compost and cover with a very thin layer of fine compost. Keep in a warm, bright position until germination, which can take up to 3 weeks. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, pot on and grow on before planting outside from late spring. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors from late spring to early summer.
Position: Full sun or partial shade
Height: Approx. 60–90cm
Type: Hardy Perennial
Common Name: Lemon Balm
Contents: Approximately 100 seeds
